OSU Force Academy 2000 Boys – Phenomenally Gold in Philadelphia!

After wining U12 EODSA Div 1 B league, the Force Academy 2000 Boys travelled to Philadelphia to seek further challenges from the Eastern US soccer strongholds. The Spirit United Kick Off Classic tournament is the second largest in Pennsylvania. It attracts teams from throughout the Northeast States. Over 450 high caliber teams participated, from as far south as Virginia, as far west as Ohio, as far north as Ottawa, and all points in between With only one defeat in the regular season in the EODSA league and a clean sweep at the Montreal Lac St Louis tournament, the boys were ready for their next challenge by entering the ‘Elite’ division of this popular tournament,

With adrenalin flowing and confidence high, the boys opened the tournament against a Dutch influenced team, Nether United Nitros (99), from the local region. A first minute goal stunned their players and parents and settled the team to finish with a 6-0 win. The next group qualifying game against the South Jersey Elite Barons (99) late on the Saturday evening and under floodlights, brought out a great team performance that saw another glut of goals. Final score 5-1.

The Semi final on Sunday morning against HMMS Eagle FC Wolverines ‘99 brought out another strong team performance that secured another shut out and 5 goals. This win set the boys up for a Final showdown against an equally impressive qualifying team, the Hockessin Blizzard from Delaware. With the boys playing in the USA 99 age group, the physical size certainly showed as the Blizzard entered the field, two of their boys were 6” taller than Eric B!

The final turned out to be as unpredictable as the weather, with the Delaware team using their height and muscle to try and secure possession, but the Force boys stuck to their game and used their speed and skill to open up the scoring within 5 minutes. From then onwards, stamina, skill and speed prevailed and the Delaware team could only answer to 8 goals in the final minute of the game with a well executed penalty. OSU winning Gold 8-1 in the final!

The boys scored 25 goals in 4 games and allowed 2 against. Coach Craig, the boys, siblings and parents enjoyed a memorable weekend supported by sibling and parent friendship and consistent and winning performances from all 17 Force Academy boys: Anthony, Austin, Ben, Cedric, David, Elie, Eric, Giacomo, Hassan, Ian, Kallel, Luc, Matt, Nick, Ryan, Tarik, Will.
